Voters in Canada's oil-rich Alberta have rejected a proposal to begin the process towards independence. More than a million votes were counted early this morning. Unofficial results show about 76% want to stay in Canada. Alberta's premier said she welcomed the early results. Ontario is preparing to lower winter electricity rates starting November 1st, but is also cutting the monthly government rebate down to 15.7% from 23.5. Because base electricity prices will drop across all three plans, the Ontario Energy Board confirms bills will decrease by about $23 a month for the average household, adding up to about $275 in annual savings. Don't call Air Canada if you want to book your flight because now they're going to charge you an extra $30 per person to speak with somebody on the phone. Travelers booking an Air Canada flight via its call center will have to pay $30 a passenger. The new fee does not apply to customers who buy their tickets through its website or the app. Keep in mind the fee is non-refundable, so even if you were to cancel that ticket, you still have to pay $30 per passenger. And Paris police issued an overnight curfew in two areas after a weekend marred by France's worst rioting in years. Residents are upset with the government, including the state of disrepair with high schools, education funding. There's widespread anger over the soaring cost of living and energy prices.
