Some wild weather yesterday across the GTHA, power outages, widespread flooding, and a tornado was spotted near Kitchener. Environment Canada issued multiple emergency alerts for extreme weather as the intense system brought torrential rain, large hail and strong winds. There were multiple reports of fallen trees and downed power lines. Hydro One reported over 50,000 customers were in the dark. DVP still closed in both directions because it flooded. Pearson Airport also reported numerous cancellations and flight delays yesterday. Subway service even had to be suspended when train cars flooded and the smell of sewage-filled Union Station. Voters head to the polls today in three by-elections in Ontario. They're being held in Hamilton Stony Creek, Scarborough Southwest, and York Simcoe. And Canadians get to see a new bank note today featuring an image of King Charles. The Bank of Canada was directed by the former Prime Minister's government to feature the King in its next redesign. The Royal Canadian Mint has produced coins featuring King Charles since 2023, but this is the first Canadian paper currency to feature his mug after his late mother, Queen Elizabeth.
