It's Thursday, April 9th. Good morning, 8 degrees right now in Brantford, 8 in Hamilton, 6 in Kitchener. Gas down two cents, $1.87. We're hearing a big drop is expected for tomorrow. I'm Stacey Englehart. A suspect wanted in connection with a stabbing Saturday has been arrested after a standoff with police yesterday. According to the expositor, 41-year-old Thomas Dean Kane of Branford barricaded himself in an apartment yesterday, refused to surrender. A nearby elementary school was placed under lockdown. It has since been lifted. The man was taken into custody. Another Ontario MP has crossed the floor. Marilyn Gladue said she's joining the Kearney Liberals after being elected as a Conservative four times in the Sarnia region. Kearney's government now has 171 seats with three by-elections Monday. The conflict in the Middle East is taking another turn. Iran has reportedly closed the Strait of Hormuz again after allegedly agreeing to reopen it as part of a ceasefire deal with the U.S. Well, officials say the latest move is because Israel did not abide by the ceasefire and has continued bombing Lebanon. The U.N. Secretary General condemned Israeli strikes. Federal Conservatives asking the governing Liberals to suspend the fuel tax as the conflict is sending gas prices through the roof. Earlier this week, the Prime Minister announced he's looking at ways to cushion the blow. The blow this morning is the $1.87 a liter, but we are hearing gas prices could drop another 13 cents a liter by tomorrow. And Sobey's issued a recall over several products that contain cheese because they could contain listeria. Canadian Food Inspection Agency said the items were sold at Sobey's, Co-op, Foodland, IGA, Safeway, and Thrifty Foods. The affected foods include pasta salads, cauliflower cakes, and various prepared items. While no illnesses have been reported, officials warn contaminated food does not look or smell spoiled. Sports, NHL last night, the Leafs couldn't get a goal Washington's 4-0 victory. Yesterday, only two other games were played. Edmonton beat San Jose 5-2. Buffalo beat the Rangers. Leafs back on the ice tonight with a road game against the Islanders at 6.45. OHL Conference semi-final playoffs, game one. Branford beat North Bay 8-1 to take a 1-0 series lead. The Blue Jays edged the Dodgers yesterday 4-3. They're off tonight. Start up a home series against the Twins Friday at 7. And in the NBA tonight, the Raptors host Miami at 7. Weather.
