A Canadian coalition is sending another container of aid to Cuba as the island faces severe fuel and food shortages. The Canadian network on Cuba says the shipment, their 19th since 2020, will include medical supplies, canned food, generators and mattresses. Ottawa is now advising Canadians to avoid non-essential travel as rolling blackouts worsen and airlines suspend services. Advocates say families in Cuba are struggling daily just to find food and keep the lights on.
Ontario's boosting college and university funding by more than $6 billion over the next four years. Schools can raise fees up to 2% per year. Students say that's a tough hit. Colleges and universities call the funding a much-needed lifeline.
RCMP have identified the tumblr Ridge school shooter as 18-year-old Jesse Van Rutzelar. Police say nine people were killed, including the suspect. Van Rutzelar had a history of mental health-related police calls and had dropped out of the school years earlier. Investigators believe the shooter acted alone. A long gun and a modified handgun were recovered, and the motive is still under investigation.
