It already feels like 25 degrees in Brantford. Gas is down another cent to $1.63.

Conservative MP for Brant Larry Brock is stepping down. According to his social media post, Brock will return to his former position with the Brantford Crown Attorney's Office next month. The resignation will trigger a by-election.

The City of Brantford and County of Brant have officially halted plans for a major municipal boundary adjustment involving the airport. Officials say the upcoming municipal election cycle leaves insufficient time to finalize the details. As a result, the meetings have also been cancelled.

The Ford government is looking into reopening the Brantford Jail as part of its plan to expand capacity. The move could add 125 beds. The province announced this spring it would spend $3 billion over the next 10 years to expand overcrowded jails.

Statistics Canada is set to release its latest Labour Force Survey for July this morning. According to a Reuters poll of economists, Canada is expected to have added 15,000 jobs last month, with the unemployment rate staying the same at 6.5 percent.

This weekend is the 16th annual Bradford Kinsmen Ribfest at Mohawk Park. There will be live music, theatre, community events, and of course, ribs. It runs today through Sunday.

In the CFL, the Argonauts defeated Calgary 33–30. The Tiger-Cats are in B.C. tomorrow at 7.

In the WNBA, the Toronto Tempo lost to Portland 97–83.

The Blue Jays lost 3–2 in 11 innings to Chicago in a makeup game. They begin a weekend road series in Philadelphia tonight at 6:40.

At the National Bank Open, Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski and her Russian partner were eliminated in women's doubles. Leylah Fernandez teamed up with her sister Bianca, but they also lost their doubles match. In women's singles, Fernandez will face reigning French Open champion Mirra Andreeva.
