Do you remember the hit single “Come Back Song” by Darius Rucker? It was #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart for two weeks in 2010 and certified platinum with over one million units sold.
Well Darius almost didn’t even record this song, because the demo was recorded by a famously below-average singer named Chris Stapleton. Darius’ producer Frank Rogers asked him about it in the studio, quote, “Why don’t you want to record the song? I think it’s a hit.”
To which Darius replied, “Man, have you heard the demo?! I could never sing it like that! He kills that song. I could never open my mouth and sing it like that, because it’s too great.”
The good news, for Darius, is that in the end he did decide to record it and it became the smash hit off of his second country album titled, “Charleston, SC 1996”.
“Comeback Song” was co-written by Darius, Chris Beathard, and Chris Stapleton. But, who do you think sings it better?
